The Blindfold of Certainty

Drawing upon my intellectual repository of over 75 published writings, The Blindfold of Certainty, my third nonfiction and seventh book overall, invites readers to re-consider how we live, how we love, and how we relate to the world around us. You'll embark on a journey of exploration that will leave you increasingly more uncertain about the assumptions you hold and what you've always believed was true or “normal”, reminding you of one of life's greatest lessons — nothing is truly as it initially seems.

About the book

The Blindfold of Certainty gathers seven years of essays on the human condition and rebuilds them into a single argument: that most of what we call knowing is a habit of not looking again.

Working across philosophy, psychology, ethics, technology and everyday relationships, the book examines the assumptions we inherit without noticing — about love, work, normality, identity and the people closest to us — and asks what remains once each is set down.

How to read it

The essays can be read in order or opened anywhere. Each one is designed to leave the reader slightly less certain than they were on the first page, which is the point: certainty is comfortable precisely because it stops the enquiry.
